Microscope usage in Robot Manufacturing
Sarah Bergbreiter and her team at the University of Maryland are building micro-robots. They use bio-inspired robotics as a basis. Here the robots are able to walk and jump using very tiny legs. Another example being shown are micro-robots driving around like being crazy. Some parts are being made with a microscope in order to be able to make those parts at all: micro fabrication. Processes akin to making integrated circuits are being used. At the Maryland Microrobotics Laboratory some more interesting projects are taking place involving Micromechanics and Microengineering.
I hope Sarah continues her work in scaling down robots in size, she’s good at it. This shows when viewing her ‘Honors and Awards‘ section at her university page.
