iFormers are for everyone
We tried to use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) for interfacing with iFormers. Thus everyone who can play with a smart device is capable of using iFormers. Age should not be an issue. Things get different when iFormers come in different sizes or have different functionalities. Why so? Because iFormers can be used for various purposes and in all kind of environments. Describing examples (use cases) helps to get a better understanding of iFormers and their potentials. Each use case will be suitable for a certain group of people.
iFormers use cases
The purpose of this ‘educational toy’ is to provide children an early touch with technology while developing their fine motor skills and creativity. This is also applicable to people who have lost their sense of touch and have difficulty with coordination.
Young children are the early adopters of iFormers
Try at first only stacking or attaching iFormers to others iFormers by hand. This is one of the most basic examples for using iFormers. When advancing, the motion aspects of iFormers can be discovered. A simple graphical user interface on a smart device allows for playing with iFormers, even at a very young age. iFormers can be used while continuing to grow up. At other life stages new potentials may be discovered like gameplay and other forms of shapeshifting.
Potentially, when you were little you played with wooden construction blocks, K’Nex or for example Lego material. Children in the last five years in the western world have replaced this for a virtual type of play. Virtual worlds like Minecraft or League of Legends are very popular. These virtual worlds are of the MMORPG typology: Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games.
Even Lego made their move towards the virtual realm. iFormers may be used to build structures with the help of a computing device.
iFormers can bridge the gap between purely physically or purely virtually playing a game. Now virtual gameplay is combined with physical iFormers: hybrid gameplay. While doing so, one can learn from simulations, options and settings out of the game with real world situations and consequences. There are various game concepts in development which cannot be disclosed right now.
iFormers are fun and
serve an educational purpose.
Moving iFormers can do incredible things. One of the main aspects is changing from one structure into another one. Think of having a large table formed out of iFormers. After having dinner in a small room the table is not needed anymore. Then your best friend arrives. You want to have a nice face-to-face conversation with him or her; this time without Facebook. The table then can transform into a couple of comfy chairs. Put some pillows in and you’ll have a great evening.
iFormers are structure-shape-shifters
Hopefully you can image that other interior elements should be able to do this (when formed out of iFormers). Another step will be going outside the scope of interior elements.

Imagine a box of iFormers and a physical location. Make a plan on what a structure at that location should look like. Bring the iFormers to that physical location. Before or after the iFormers have arrived there, the plan is uploaded to them. Give the start signal. The iFormers will come out of the box and start building the structure according to plan at that location.
iFormers are capable of preparing a structure for you,
without the need to be there yourself.
That structure may be your (new) home, a remote base for example on Mars or a structure where humans are not needed in order for the structure to function. Thinking out of the box: a space station. Remember that when the function of the structure is obsolete iFormers can again return to the compact box formation. Next they can be transported to some other place. In that sense it doesn’t matter where you build your house, because when you are moving the house moves with you. Alternatively, a plan may be changed and the structure transforms into the changed plan.
Known are robots moving into different terrains.
iFormers can do the same and
explore all kinds of environments.
With their motion capabilities a structure can move, which may in some way be akin to caterpillar motion. Furthermore when reaching an obstacle the structure may temporary change. It does this to overcome that obstacle and retake it’s original shape afterwards. All is depending on what functionalities are given to the iFormers and what they are allowed to do by themselves.
Exploration on the moon may be an option. Using small iFormers allow them to boldly go where no man has gone before (speleology, disaster area’s).
Giving iFormers thruster capabilities may even make underwater exploration possible.
Sometimes a structure gets broken. Yes, even iFormers can get broken. In sci-fi movies this happens primarily at moon bases which get smashed by relatively small asteroid impacts. Stupid actually: whole sections of those bases are becoming uninhabitable for humans (hollywood). What if a structure gets repaired without humans needing to take part in this process. iFormers can make this happen. Non-functioning iFormers within the smashed structure are being removed by other iFormers (piggyback principle). Once removed additional iFormers take up their space. In that sense the results of the asteroid impacts are undone.
Structures can be repaired by other iFormers
This principle is not only applicable in space, but also for repairs of parts of a structure which can not be accessed easily. Furthermore think of iFormer maintenance: at intervals iFormers migrate to a service point where maintenance takes place. Temporarily another iFormer changes places with the iFormer which is under maintenance.
